Philosophy of Teaching
I believe that all teachers should be both an educator and an advocate for all children. I find that the best way to be an advocate is to assimilate everything I do –from academics, to self-help, and social skills. As an educator, I want to teach all students that they are capable of reading, writing, and math skills that are essential for survival in this world. I want to teach them to, in turn, use these skills to deal with the challenges they will face in our growing complex world.
Meet the Teacher
I graduated from Presbyterian College with a BA in Special Education. I earned a second degree in Early Childhood Education from Georgia State. I've been teaching for 20 years, 19 of which have been at Barnwell. While at Barnwell, I have taught Kindergarten Special Education, Community Pre-School Special Education, Kindergarten, and First Grade General Education. I also served as an Itinerant Kindergarten Special Education Teacher for both South and North Fulton County. I was born in Connecticut, but I've lived in the Atlanta area since I was a teenager. I have a 16 year old son, and I'm married to a wonderful husband who has a 20 year old daughter and a 17 year old son.
